Genetic switch lets marine diatoms do less work at higher carbon dioxide

Rising carbon dioxide lets diatoms return to their evolutionary roots, by skipping steps that concentrate carbon dioxide. Over time, the drifting algae adjust by slowing down their metabolism, scientists report.
