Film director Gowthaman on Thursday condemned the Central government for awarding contracts for hydrocarbon exploration close to the Pichavaram mangrove forests near Chidambaram to Vedanta. Addressing mediapersons after visiting the mangroves in a boat, he said that more than 18 varieties of medicinal plants were found in the Pichavaram mangrove forests spread over 4,500 hectares.
